Frequently Asked Questions

About The Velocity Room

What is The Velocity Room?

The Velocity Room (TVR) is a practitioner-first, independent, non-profit community for IT professionals working in AI infrastructure and security. We bring practitioners together to have real conversations about what AI actually looks like inside enterprise environments: the tradeoffs, the budget realities, the decisions you have to make before the research catches up.

Who is The Velocity Room for?

TVR is for IT practitioners and technology leaders. Security engineers, infrastructure architects, DevOps and platform teams who need peer context to solve real problems now. IT professionals figuring out what AI means for their role and their org. Technology leadership (CIOs, CTOs, VPs of Engineering and Security) who need macro-level context and straight answers from people in the same seat. If AI infrastructure or security is part of your day-to-day, you're in the right place.

Is The Velocity Room a non-profit?

Yes. TVR is an independent non-profit. We built it this way on purpose so the decisions we make about content, events, and partnerships are made for members, not for revenue. Our bylaws and privacy policy are publicly available at thevelocityroom.com.

Is The Velocity Room affiliated with any vendor or standards body?

No. TVR is independent, not affiliated with any vendor, user group, or standards body. We do work with industry partners (Cisco is our current partner), and we pick those partners based on whether they're addressing questions our members are already asking. We keep full control over programming, content, and community decisions.

Who runs The Velocity Room?

TVR's core team: Brad Tompkins (Operations) has over twenty years of experience in corporate operations, community building, and people development. Molly Saideman (Operations) leads community growth and large-scale event strategy. Jessica Lee (Marketing) is a digital strategist focused on community-driven brand and engagement. Krish Colon (Marketing) brings enterprise technology and agency experience to TVR's marketing programs. Maggie Lehnen (Events) runs TVR's in-person and virtual programming. Richard Piasentin, a senior executive at Cisco leading AI platform strategy, serves on TVR's board.

Membership

Is TVR membership free?

Yes. Free. No hidden costs, no subscription, no commitment. You get access to the community, virtual events, the content library, and first access to new programs and speaker lineups. You can opt out at any time.

What does TVR membership include?

Free membership includes: a content library of practitioner-written guides, case studies, and research summaries; live virtual events including webcasts, workshops, and AMA sessions; in-person access including member lunches at industry conferences; early access to new content, beta tools, and speaker lineups; and a global network of IT professionals you can actually talk to about the stuff you're working through.

Are there different membership levels?

Three paths, all free. Discover is for IT professionals staying current on AI who aren't yet responsible for day-to-day implementation. Implement is for practitioners actively working on security, infrastructure, and operations who need peer context to solve problems now. Innovate is for technology leaders who need macro-level context, industry trends, and conversations with people facing the same questions. Picking a path helps TVR send you the content and events that are actually relevant to where you are. You can change paths at any time.

Events

What kinds of events does TVR run?

Three types. Virtual events are free live webcasts and workshops on AI infrastructure and security topics. Live sessions, not recorded replays. In-person city events are standalone TVR gatherings. Industry conference presence includes booth space and member lunches at major AI and enterprise technology conferences. All of it is built around practitioners talking to practitioners.

Where does TVR show up in person in 2026?

Confirmed 2026 events: Cisco Live (May 31 to June 4, San Diego) with a booth and member lunch on June 3; AI Engineer World's Fair (June 26 to July 2) with a booth and member lunch on July 1; AI4 (August 4 to 8, Las Vegas) with a booth and member lunch on August 5. Standalone city events are planned for Dallas (September 2026), Chicago (October 2026), and Milan (November 2026). Details at thevelocityroom.com/events.

What topics do TVR events cover?

The questions practitioners are actually working through: rogue AI agent security, GPU-CPU co-design for inference, shadow AI governance, machine identity management at scale, AI cost governance, ML model supply chain security, and the regulatory landscape including the EU AI Act and NIST AI RMF. Topics come from what members are dealing with, not vendor product cycles.
